The standard requirements for intrinsic safety design mainly refer to the two national standards: GB/T 3836.1 and GB/T 3836.4.
GB/T 3836.1 is the general requirement for equipment used in explosive atmospheres, which stipulates the general safety requirements and test methods for electrical equipment used in explosive atmospheres. In contrast, GB/T 3836.4 is a standard specifically for equipment protected by the intrinsic safety type "i", which details the technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules for intrinsic safety-type electrical equipment.
The basic definition of intrinsic safety design is to limit the circuit energy of electrical equipment, so that the electric sparks or thermal effects generated under normal operation or specified fault conditions cannot ignite the surrounding explosive atmosphere. This explosion-proof mode focuses primarily on limiting the energy in the circuit to ensure the intrinsic safety performance of the equipment.
Intrinsic safety design is widely used in instruments, meters and handheld terminal products with low power consumption and low energy, because the energy generated by these products is relatively low and can be easily controlled within a safe range through technical means to meet the requirements of intrinsic safety.
When applying for intrinsic safety certification, the materials to be submitted include product manuals, enterprise standards, electrical schematics, block diagrams, PCB drawings, general assembly drawings, explosion diagrams, battery specifications, wireless transmission power reports, etc. These materials are used to evaluate whether the equipment complies with the requirements of intrinsic safety explosion-proofing.
Equipment that has passed intrinsic safety certification can minimize the risk of explosion when used in hazardous environments such as flammable and explosive areas, ensuring the safety of personnel lives and property. Meanwhile, for enterprises, obtaining intrinsic safety certification is also one of the important access conditions for their products to enter relevant markets, helping to improve the market competitiveness of products.
